Do you know of someone who is being harmed?

If you are worried about a friend, relative or neighbour, The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 can help them if they are aged 16 or over; are at risk of harm; and may find it difficult to protect themselves because of a:

  • disability or
  • mental disorder or
  • illness or
  • physical or mental infirmity

If they meet this criteria then there are things that can be done to help them. This website can help you understand what harm is under this Act.

Contact your local council who will make inquiries and investigations to see if action is needed to stop or prevent harm happening. The council will not take any action unless the person concerned agrees and they are free to say no at any time if they are unhappy with the action. You can also contact the police or your GP to tell them about your concerns.

If the person you are worried about does not meet the criteria above then there are other helpful organisations who can help.
